Diagnosing isn't limited to cars or medicine! It's about careful observation leading to a clear understanding of what is happening and why. The word comes from Greek roots that suggest "knowing through" careful study.

To diagnose means to identify the nature and cause of something—usually a problem or condition. It's most commonly associated with medicine, where doctors diagnose illnesses by examining patients, reviewing tests, and considering their medical history. For example, "After several tests, the doctor was able to diagnose her with pneumonia."

However, this idea extends far beyond healthcare. A mechanic might diagnose an engine failure, a computer technician could diagnose a software glitch, or a teacher might diagnose a student's reading difficulties.
