Description

Pasteboard is a stiff kind of cardboard made by pasting layers of paper together. It was widely used for book covers, playing cards, and photo backing before modern cardboard and plastics became common. You will often see it in older writing about crafts, toys, and printed goods. In a figurative sense, something called "pasteboard" may look impressive at first but turn out to be thin, cheap, or not quite real.
