To be secretive means to intentionally keep things hidden from others—thoughts, feelings, plans, or information. Think of a squirrel carefully burying its nuts; it's being secretive about where it's storing its treasure! Some people are naturally private, while others become secretive when they have something to hide. A detective might describe a suspect as "secretive" if they avoid answering questions directly. It is not always negative; sometimes keeping things private is simply a matter of personal preference.

Imagine an old wooden chest locked with many keys, hidden away in the attic. That's a good image for "secretive." The word describes someone who deliberately avoids revealing their thoughts, feelings, or plans to others. It's more than just being quiet; it implies intentional concealment.
