B1
verbnoun

Pronunciation

UK

  • /lˈɒɡ/

US

  • /ˈlɔɡ/

Description

A "log" has several common meanings. It can be the thick trunk of a fallen tree, ready to be cut for firewood or used in building. It can also mean a written record of events or activity. Sailors once kept a log of their journeys, and today a computer keeps a log of what it does. A person might also keep a daily log, much like a diary.

As a verb, "log" means to record something. A scientist might log observations, and a worker might log hours. You can also "log in" to a website, which means entering your account.
